UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WTAJ) — Penn State’s Startup Week powered by PNC returns featuring resources and speakers designed to help budding entrepreneurial students learn more about the industry, with some lecturers being students themselves.
Startup Week powered by PNC is aimed at the Penn State community, but anyone from the area is allowed to register on their website.
“We have something for everyone,” Matthew McKinney, entrepreneurship program manager at Penn State, said.
Monday focused on speakers who are students themselves. One of those speakers was Mary Richardson, CEO of the dating app Bindr. She spoke to students about her journey as an app developer in an oversaturated market.
“I think it’s super important for students to hear how other students are doing it and how they could help apply that to themselves,” Richardson said.
She also gave tips on how to become a business owner while juggling the role of being a full-time student.
“I’m doing school full time and I’m doing Bindr full time, and luckily I’m just able to balance that,” Richardson said.

Startup Week powered by PNC will continue throughout the rest of the week, with the rest of the guests being Penn State alumni. The events will include more speakers and some hands-on activities.
